ALTAI CITY WATER SUPPLY PROJECT “TAISHIR-ALTAI”
Background: The present water source for Altai city does not meet potable water standards and the ratio between calcium and magnesium is improper and has an adverse impact on human health. Water resources for the city are not sufficient to supply the current demand.
Previous underground water investigations have not found water sources with adequate resources that satisfy water quality standards. In order to solve all these issues, the project proposed to bring water to Altai city from the reservoir of the existing Taishir Hydro-power plant by means of a 45 to 50 km long pipeline
Present situation: Water demand for Altai city is 2000 m3/day or 23 liters per second. The city is presently being supplied with the water with only half this amount – 10 to 12 liters per second – and under strict time limitations. In Altai city, the price for 1-liter water is 1 tugrug per liter for the offices, 1.5 tugriks for water distribution points, and 3 tugriks for water that is distributed by the trucks. This tariff is 5 times higher than the water tariff in Ulaanbaatar City. In order words, Altai residents are paying a high price for poor quality water.
A 2010 design study, “Improvement and Rehabilitation of Water Supply System in Altai City” finance by the Asian Development Bank, estimated that daily water demand would be 2,376 m3/day or 27.5 l/sec in 2020 and 4,493 m3/day or 52 l/sec in 2040, based on Altai City future development trends, industrial and service sector trends. Therefore, it seems that 15.5 l/sec water in 2020 and 40 l/sec water in 2040 will be needed additionally.
Euro Khan, jointly with Ferrostaal Group executed a feasibility study for an SX/EW plant to recover copper waste and transform it into copper cathode via heap-leaching process, while meeting environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Solvent extraction is commonly used to concentrate materials in an organic solution, while electrowinning is used to recover these elements. SX/EW processing is best known for its use by the copper industry, where it accounts for 20% of worldwide production
